What changed on 28 September 2026: Active Investor Plus investment-offering rules
The rules apply to managed funds and direct investments offered to AIP investors, not to an individual's visa application.
From 28 September 2026, a managed fund seeking approval must provide and maintain an investment deployment plan. [1]Immigration New Zealand, Active Investor Plus: new managed fund requirements from 28 September An investor can ask a fund manager to show that plan before committing capital.
A managed fund or direct investment that Invest New Zealand declines must wait six months before it can reapply for approved status. [1]Immigration New Zealand, Active Investor Plus: new managed fund requirements from 28 September The stand-down sits at the offering level: it does not pause or restart an investor's own AIP visa timeline.
Invest New Zealand also gained clearer authority to suspend or revoke the eligibility of an approved fund or direct investment that stops meeting requirements. [1]Immigration New Zealand, Active Investor Plus: new managed fund requirements from 28 September If that happens to an investment already held, the existing reinvestment rule still applies: proceeds from a sold, matured or returned investment must go into another acceptable investment within 90 days for direct investments and managed funds, or 30 days for listed equities, philanthropy, property development and bonds. [2]Immigration New Zealand, Managing your investments: Active Investor Plus Visa Immigration New Zealand has not stated whether these offering-level changes apply retroactively to investments approved before 28 September 2026; treat that question as open until Immigration New Zealand confirms it directly.
Invest New Zealand has also clarified what counts as a Growth or a Balanced investment. The two categories and their thresholds stay the same.

What stays the same
What stays the same: the NZD 5 million minimum for a Growth investment and NZD 10 million for a Balanced investment, the 36-month Growth and 60-month Balanced investment periods, the six-month window to transfer funds after approval in principle, and the evidence checkpoints at 24 and at 36 or 60 months. What to check after 28 September 2026
An investor holding or choosing an AIP investment after 28 September 2026 has a short list to run through:
- Confirm the fund or direct investment currently holds Invest New Zealand's approved status, rather than relying on a past approval date.
- Ask a fund manager for the investment deployment plan now required of managed funds.
- Check which category, Growth or Balanced, the investment is placed in, and whether that still matches the intended visa pathway.
- Know the 90-day reinvestment window in advance, in case an investment's status changes.
Immigration New Zealand does not endorse or guarantee the performance of any approved investment; inclusion on the approved list reflects eligibility, not an assessment of returns.
